Patience and Salvation
Penitence is more than just asking God for forgiveness. Penitence is humans showing their “broken spirits” and their “contrite hearts” with their humility to strengthen their resistance against any future temptation to sins, as well as showing their gratitude to God for His gift of mercy.
Only the Holy Spirit can help humans overcome their control and dominance of their flesh to receive the eternal life promised by God.
The Eternity
Eternal life is a quality of life that begins on earth and continues a new life in heaven.
“4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.” Romans 6:4
Jesus says: “Whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life!” (John 5:24).
“Born Again”
Death is a reality and a fact of life. Nobody lives forever. But death is the only threshold to eternal life because humans could be “born again.” Their “second birth” isn’t a physical birth but a spiritual one that comes only from the Holy Spirit. Being “born again” comes entirely from God.
“I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” John 11: 25-26
Belonging to Christ is a relationship that just can’t and won’t be broken by death.
“Second Coming”
Christians believe that Jesus will return on the Judgment Day to judge believers and unbelievers, as well as the living and the dead.
“so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.” Hebrews 9:28
Living by faith: As a believer, you must show your penitence for your sins and disobedience to God in order to gain the "free gift" of your salvation.
